AEW’s Adam Cole Vows to ‘Do Everything in My Power’ to Return After ‘the Most Challenging Injury of My Career’

Adam Cole is no stranger to injury, but the AEW wrestler says his latest one — a broken ankle — is the most difficult to deal with to date. On Tuesday, he took to X (formerly Twitter) to update fans on his current situation.

“Emotionally, this has been the most challenging injury of my career. Without question,” Cole wrote. “Thank you to EVERYONE who has reached out & shown support. Means more than you know.”

The current ROH World Tag Team Champion (with MJF) went on to say that he will “do everything in my power to get back to work doing what I love to do. Because I’m #AdamColeBayBay.”

Cole sustained his injury on Sept. 20, during the main event of this year’s AEW Grand Slam special. He twisted his ankle while running to the ring to help his friend and tag team partner MJF, who successfully defended his AEW World Championship against Samoa Joe.

That night, Cole was taken to the hospital, and his girlfriend, fellow wrestler Britt Baker D.M.D., posted a gruesome photo of his foot.

Cole revealed more details about his injured ankle during a Twitch stream on Oct. 5.

“Obviously, as many people know, my ankle is broken,” he said. “When it’s all said and done, when I’m eventually able to get everything all fixed, I’m going to need to get two surgeries, and it will be a total of eight screws and a plate in my ankle… Speaking to doctors, just an absolute freak type of thing. Just no idea how it happened. But I’m doing my best to stay as positive as I can. Obviously, this is soul-crushing.”

Cole had just returned to the ring on the March 29 edition of Dynamite after being out for nine months due to a concussion sustained at the joint AEW and New Japan Pro-Wrestling event Forbidden Door.
