Air fryer Sticky Chinese Chicken with Salt and Pepper chips that's better than a takeaway'

Air fryers have taken over kitchens across the UK with people switching off their ovens to save money and time.

TikTok is full of great tips and tricks with air fryer recipes among them. Taking to the social media video platform, Christina aka @veryhungrygreek, has shared her delicious Sticky Chinese Chicken recipe.

If you're drooling already, she also serves it with Salt and Pepper chips. It comes as part of her cooking series, '30 Days of High Protein Air Fryer Recipes', with the meal of course being high in protein.

Talking in her video she says that her 30 days series is low calories, easy and quick to make, and "most importantly, they have so much flavour".

In her caption she says that it "taste better than a takeaway" adding: "Bold claim so go make it NOW."

The recipe has 585 calories and contains 40g of protein, 22g of fibre and 59g of carbs. It serves two people.

Sticky Chinese Chicken with Salt and Pepper chips - full recipe

Ingredients

  • 360g chicken thighs, diced

  • 2 tsp soy sauce

  • 1 garlic clove, minced

  • 1 inch ginger, minced

  • 1 egg or egg white

  • 23g cornflour

  • 1/2 onion, diced

  • 1 red & green pepper, diced

  • 150g shop-bought skin on fries, cooked

  • 1/2 tsp Chinese five spice

  • A pinch of sweetener or sugar

  • Spring onion

Optional: a handful of prawn crackers and sesame seeds!

For the glaze:

  • 2 heaped tbsp sweet chilli sauce

  • 1 tsp dark soy

  • 1 tsp honey

  • Squeeze of lemon juice

Method

  1. Season the chicken with 1 tsp soy sauce, ginger and garlic.

  2. Dip into the whisked egg or egg white then cornflour. Spray with low calorie spray and air fry on 190C for 14-16 mins, turning half way and spraying again.

  3. In the meantime spray a pan with low calorie spray and fry the onion sand peppers for a few mins to soften.

  4. Add your cooked chips along with the Chinese for spice, sweetener and 1 tsp soy sauce and mix well.

  5. Plate up, add the glaze to the pan along with 2 tbsps water and cook on high until it bubbles.

  6. Coat the chicken in the glaze, then top with spring onions and serve with prawn crackers.

Tip: In step 2, Christina places hers on parchment paper to stop it from sticking. If you want to do this, make sure your air fryer allows this.
