Airdrieonians celebrated the centenary of the club’s one and only Scottish Cup win in 1924 with an unforgettable night at the Westerwood Hotel.

In April 19,1924, an all-time great Diamonds team including Hughie Gallacher, Bob McPhail and Willie Russell defeated Hibernian 2-0 at Ibrox to lift the silverware.

And to commemorate that achievement, a sell-out crowd at the Cumbernauld venue enjoyed a terrific evening in amongst the current crop of Diamonds stars, including player-boss Rhys McCabe and defender Callum Fordyce.

Guest of honour Sir Alex Ferguson had to cancel his appearance, but those in attendance were still treated to a great night with former referee Hugh Dallas and Jonathan Watson of ‘Only An Excuse’ Fame entertaining guests with their stories.

Diamonds fan Colin Telford also had the crowd enthralled by his self-penned rendition of the journey to the trophy.

There was then an incredible moment as the room united to hold their Airdrie scarves aloft, with ‘Rhys McCabe’s Red and White Army’ showing their appreciation.

On the night, Fordyce - who has made 200 Diamonds appearances – and striker Calum Gallagher were also inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame.

And Fordyce said: “It was great and a massive honour for myself to get inducted into the Hall of Fame, and to share that with Calum Gallagher as well, who I’m really close with.

“I signed in the same season as him, and to get that accolade is a massive achievement, it’s something that you normally get later on in life.

“To get it when we’re still at the club and playing, it’s a great honour.”
