Airline Employee Documents Evacuation From Sudan After Fighting Breaks Out

A man documented his escape from Sudan as he was evacuated by air to Saudi Arabia on April 27, more than 10 days after fighting broke out between the Sudanese Armed Forces and a rival paramilitary group.

Wagdi Omer, who was working as an aircraft maintenance manager for Sudan’s Badr Airlines, shared several videos showing people waiting in line to board a transport aircraft in Port Sudan, followed by people boarding a bus which he said was in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

“It is very sad to be part of this tragedy,” he said on Twitter. “War is what happens when language fails. I pray for the end of this fight in Sudan.”

“I would like to thank my colleagues and friends who supported me in my departure. Your bravery, sacrifice, and strength do not go unnoticed,” he added. Credit: Wagdi Omer via Storyful
