Alan Davies reveals why Stephen Fry REALLY quit QI
Alan Davies has spilled the beans on the REAL reason Stephen Fry decided to quit QI.
The comedian, who worked alongside Fry on the hit BBC panel show for 13 years, claims the presenter felt overworked by the Beeb, with budget cuts meaning the stars had to increase their workload towards the end of his run on the show.
“Sometimes he’d go upstairs and have a vodka and tonic and a lie down then come back and say: ‘I don’t want to do this’.” Davies told the Daily Mail.
“It’s absolutely right he’s stepped down. He didn’t want to do it any more. It’s a new era. We have a really good replacement.
“There’s a good atmosphere around the show. Sandi Toksvig is really good at it. I had a great time making the show. I was funny. I actually have a bit more room.”
50-year-old Davies explained that the slashed budget means that the panelists often have to film as many as three episodes in 24 hours, and openly admits that he flirted with the idea of quitting too.
“I offered to go if they wanted a total clearout and I’m sure they thought about it but they kept me there,” he confessed.
“With three small children and a mortgage, I’d be an idiot to jump ship. It’s one of the best jobs on the telly.”
