Alan Partridge and all-star 'University Challenge' special confirmed for 2019 Comic Relief line-up

Alan Partridge, fresh from This Time on BBC One, will turn his hand to live telethon-ing for Comic Relief, it’s been confirmed.

Steve Coogan’s newly invigorated chat show host will be joined by his sidekick Simon Denton (Tim Key) trying to raise money on the streets of Norwich.

As well as Alan, Jennifer Saunders will spoofing recent sequel Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, with Mamma Mia! Here We Go (Yet) Again, joined by Alan Carr, Philip Glenister, Miranda Hart, Sue Perkins, Carey Mulligan, Gemma Arterton and Tom Hollander.

The BBC hit Bodyguard will also be getting a ribbing, with Richard Madden reprising his role of close protection officer David Budd, alongside Sanjeev Bhaskar and Gina McKee.

Meanwhile, a special edition of University Challenge will find Jason Manford, Emily Atack, kerry Godliman, Martin Freeman, Robert Rinder and Vick Hope competing, with David Baddiel standing in as host.

As previously announced, the jewel in this year’s programming will be One Red Nose Day And A Wedding, which will reunite Four Weddings and a Funeral stars Hugh Grant, Andie MacDowell, Kristin Scott Thomas, John Hannah, Rowan Atkinson, James Fleet, David Haig with director Richard Curtis.

Hosted by Sir Lenny Henry, Paddy McGuinness, Emma Willis, Romesh Ranganathan, Rob Beckett, Alesha Dixon, Clara Amfo, Zoe Ball, Joe Sugg and David Tennant, it airs next Friday (March 15) from 7pm.
