Alan Ritchson details agonising Reacher on-set injury

Reacher – the new TV series following the titular character as he finds himself wanted by the authorities in a rural town – is out now on Amazon Prime, and it's a show featuring plenty of brutal moments, so it's no wonder that there were a few incidents along the way.

Star Alan Ritchson has now spoken about a particularly nasty injury he received on set, sharing that it stemmed from having to completely learn how to fight in a specific style through stunt coordinator Buster Reeves.

"It took a long time to sort of deconstruct my fighting style which is more of a broad, brawler energy and Reacher’s much more specific than that, a little more like a neurosurgeon. So we had to just clean up a lot of my foibles," the actor told Metro.

"So once we stripped my style down to the basics and rebuilt, then it was just months of training, and that’s going to take its toll on the body. There was a fight where I was elbowing the hell out of somebody and I tore an oblique.

"You can’t breathe, you can’t sit, stand, there’s just no position to be in where it doesn’t get you, but we fought through."

Ritchson also mentioned another stunt that thankfully didn't go wrong, but was the "scariest" thing to film (as far as he was concerned) and involved a scene where he had to leap off a balcony.

"I have no fear of heights, I’m game for all this stuff," he said, "but I had these dress shoes on, and it’s the kind of thing normally you’d do in some sneakers with some grip, and I not only had dress shoes, but they had a heel on the shoe".

Ouch.

Reacher is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video now.
