Alaska State Troopers Rescue Two Swimming Deer Found Stranded in the Water Miles from Shore

Troopers found the deer in Southeast Alaska's Clarence Strait, four miles from land

Two stranded deer found tired and swimming in Southeast Alaska's Clarence Strait were rescued by state troopers who happened to be in the right place at the right time.

According to a YouTube video and Instagram clip posted on Oct 14 by Alaska State Troopers, the animals were discovered four miles from shore.

"Alaska Wildlife Troopers encountered two deer swimming between islands in Southeast Alaska, but these deers were about 4 miles offshore," a caption reads over the social media video of the deer swimming towards the boat.

The rescuing troopers were returning to the Alaskan city of Ketchikan from the Ernest Sound when they spotted the needy animals.

Justin Freeman, a spokesperson for the Alaska State Troopers, told the Anchorage Daily News that the deer started paddling towards the boat as soon as the troopers slowed down.

"Both deer ran into the side of the boat with their heads, indicating they wanted on board," Freeman told the outlet. "The deer quickly swam over to the troopers on the swim step and let the troopers remove them from the water and place them on the back deck."

In the video of the incident, the deer sit in the boat after swimming toward the watercraft.

"This guy at the back is doing pretty rough," a person says over the clip as a deer shivers after getting into the troopers' boat. "He didn't fight us too hard, but we got him on."

The camera then switches to the other deer sitting in the boat by a container. "This guy here is in a little bit better shape," someone on the boat says. "Hopefully, they live, and we'll go put them on the shore somewhere."

The person adds that the deer were "out in the middle of Clarence," naming the strait where the wild animals were found.

"They're in rough shape, like on their last leg," the voice says as the boat speeds towards land.

The video ends with the deer walking on land and moving towards a woodland area.

"After a little while, the two deer trotted off into the trees," reads text over the video as one deer turns to look back at the boat.
