Aldi shoppers can get a bag full of mystery goods - worth at least £10 - for just £3.30. The bargain buy can be snapped up by anyone who has the Too Good To Go app.

More than half a millions bags of surplus grocery products have been sold by the supermarket giant since February last year, saving customers more than £7million.

Items in the cut-price bags, which can be purchased via the Too Good To Go app, differ each time but all will be approaching their sell-by or use-by dates. Aldi said the service was most popular in Birmingham, where an estimated 14,000 bags have been bought so far.

Liz Fox, national sustainability director at Aldi UK, said: “It is amazing to see the sheer number of our customers that have made the most of our Too Good To Go Surprise Bags since launching last year. This partnership not only allows us to reduce food waste and demonstrate our commitment to being a sustainable retailer, but also enables our customers to access quality food whilst saving even more on their shop.”

Aldi recently announced the collection window for its Too Good To Go bags had been extended, with app users now able to secure a bag up to 24 hours ahead of the collection time. Bags will also be available for collection on Sundays from April 21.

In addition to Too Good To Go, Aldi also donates surplus food from its stores through its partnership with Neighbourly. It has donated more than 45 million meals to those in need since 2019.
