Aldi's Just Released A Pink Prosecco And It's An Absolute Bargain!

From Delish

Back in May, we heard some very exciting Prosecco-related news...

Pink Prosecco would finally be a thing.

And now, Aldi has launched its very own bottle, and the best part is, it's an absolute bargain.

The supermarket has announced the latest addition to its much-loved sparkling range: Prosecco Rosé DOC, which is just £6.49 a bottle. This is the first time these pink bubbles have been available to buy in the UK, so that makes this announcement even more wonderful.

So why is this such exciting news for Prosecco fans?

After a lengthy battle between the government, and producers in Italy, the green light was eventually given to allow Prosecco producers to create a pink-hued version.

It’s been in the pipeline since at 2018, but with many believing it would never truly be a Prosecco, the Prosecco DOC Consortium announced that it had updated rules for production, and pink Prosecco plans were unanimously approved by the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies’ National Wine Committee.

Wine expert, Mistress of Wine, Sam Caporn explains: “Shoppers might have already enjoyed Italian rosé (or rosato) sparkling wine, but it won't actually have been Prosecco, because pink Prosecco hasn't previously been permitted. Prosecco (like Champagne) is governed by strict regulations and Prosecco DOC has to come from grapes grown exclusively from nine provinces in the north east of Italy, and there are many rules in place regarding how it can be produced. Like standard Prosecco, the new rosé variety must be made primarily from Glera grapes but with the addition of Pinot Noir.”
