Alesha Dixon has fired back at criticism of her Britain's Got Talent outfits. The former singer has been a judge on the ITV talent show since 2012.

Ahead of the new series returning on Saturday night, Alesha was appearing on Joe Lycett's Late Night Takeaway on Channel 4. Alesha, 45, was complimented by the Brummie comedian on her fashion sense on the show.

Alesha admitted: "It's controversial," before laughing. She defended her unusual fashion choices on the show - including one large silver triangle earring and a pink dress with sleeves that completely covered the hands - that have previously baffled viewers.

Alesha continued: "The thing is I like to wear things that you wouldn't wear to the local supermarket. Because you know it's fun isn't it?"

Turning to Joe she added: "Well you know better than anyone. You've got to have fun with it so that's what I like to do on the show."

Joe questioned her about the one earring look "that people were really baffled by". Alesha said she often one just one statement earring, adding: "David was actually playing that earring on me during the auditions."

Alesha isn't the only judge to have come under fire for her outfit choices on the show. Amanda Holden has previously sparked Ofcom complaints with her choice of skimpy outfits.

Britain's Got Talent returns to ITV1 on Saturday, April 20 at 7.30pm. Ant and Dec will return to host, while Alesha is joined again on the judging panel by Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Bruno Toniolo.
