Alex Gogic has given St Mirren ’s European push a major boost by agreeing a new contract.

The Cypriot international was out-of-contract this month but has thrashed out a long-term extension. The 30-year-old, who will sign a new three year deal, moved from Hibs two years ago and has proved to be a key figure for Stephen Robinson ’s side. Saints director Jim Gillespie has been a major factor in getting the Gogic deal agreed. Gogic helped St Mirren to their first top six split finish last season and this time around wants to go one better with a European place.

The big defender helped the Buddies to a big win at Dundee last weekend that saw them move five points clear of their nearest rivals. St Mirren know if they can remain in the top five then they will go into next season’s Europa Conference League. Robinson has recently got the likes of James Bolton, Scott Tanser and Jonah Ayunga to pen extensions.

They remain in talks with Keanu Baccus and Ryan Strain but as it stands both look likely to move on. Robinson already has an eye on next season and is trying to land defender Kofi Balmer from Crystal Palace.
