Alexander Isak transfer update as Chelsea make fresh move amid Newcastle United stance

Newcastle United have had a fresh enquiry for Alexander Isak from Chelsea.

ChronicleLive has learned that the Blues have been in touch with the Magpies and are interested in the Sweden international. The move comes just hours after Chelsea received a cash boost of around £35million after selling Ian Maatsen to Aston Villa - but the Stamford Bridge side would have to come up with something sensational to persuade Newcastle to sell.

At this stage, there is no suggestion that Newcastle would sell Isak and the second audacious enquiry from Enzo Maresca's side has been deemed as the Blues testing United's resolve. Given the upcoming June 30 PSR health check deadline and suggestions Newcastle have a shortfall to make up in the media, something played down by the Magpies, that is not a big surprise.

But the proof will be in the pudding in the weeks and months ahead at St James' Park. Newcastle paid £63m for Isak from Real Sociedad two summers ago but his valuation has soared since then.

Newcastle had opened preliminary talks on a new contract for the striker and he has no attempted to leave even after Eddie Howe's team did not qualify for Europe. But reliable sources have now stood up the latest enquiry for Isak from Chelsea following initial interest this week.
