Alison Hammond has been forced to deny she is engaged after being spotted wearing what people thought was a diamond ring on her left hand.

The TV star set tongues wagging on Friday's This Morning when she appeared wearing the sparkler on her engagement finger, sparking rumours that she had some big news.

But Hammond addressed the misunderstanding on the show, saying she was actually wearing a "cheap" ring that she had accidentally put on the wrong hand.

Alison Hammond sparked rumours of wedding bells on Friday when she appeared on This Morning wearing a huge "diamond" ring on her engagement finger - but later had to deny there was any happy news to share.

Viewers couldn't fail to spot what looked like a large, sparkling engagement ring on Hammond's left hand, which she had to explain was actually a "cheap" ring that she'd accidentally put on the wrong finger.

With a banner reading "Alison is not engaged!" on the bottom of the screen, the presenter who has recently revealed a new relationship said: "Ok, so the showbiz roundup - hold on a minute, Alison Hammond's engaged?"

The hilarious exchange unfolded as co-host Dermot O'Leary asked: "What, what, what? Where did this scoop come from?"

She told O'Leary and showbiz reporter Will Best: "Well apparently, I'm in the Daily Mail today..."

O'Leary said: "Basically, you've been wearing this on the wrong finger," as Hammond added: "I'm so sorry, let me swap it over to stop all these rumours."

Best told her: "It's gorgeous," and she explained: "Thank you so much, it's just some cheap ring that I got from, er, I think it's probably Primark.

"Let me swap it over because we don't want these rumours going out there, know what I mean."

Who is Alison Hammond dating?

Hammond, 49, has recently gone public with her new boyfriend, Russian masseur David Putman, 26, who she met after booking him for a massage.

The pair went Instagram official in April, sharing snaps from a romantic weekend away at a wildlife park, and since then Hammond has talked about him on Rob Beckett and Josh Widdicombe's Parenting Hell podcast.

As the comedians asked her whether she was single, she replied: "No… I’m not single.. I’m dating. I’m dating!"

Hammond revealed how her son Aiden felt about her new boyfriend. She added he was a fan, saying: "When they actually met, he really liked him, he really thought he was lovely, so that’s nice.

"Thank goodness for that! Because normally Aiden hates anybody I date, literally just not interested. And you just know at that point, if Aiden doesn’t like them, this isn’t gonna work."
