Amanda Wakeley: Kate and Meghan's fashion designer robbed by axe-wielding moped thieves in Chelsea

One of the Duchess of Cambridge's favourite fashion designers has been robbed by axe-wielding moped thieves in Chelsea, west London.

Amanda Wakeley, whose creations are also worn by the Duchess of Sussex, was checking flat tyres on her car when she was threatened by thieves, according to her partner and financial PR adviser, Hugh Morrison.

He said they fled with the 57-year-old's £25,000 Rolex watch, leaving her shocked but unhurt.

It took place in the Chelsea Harbour district of the capital on Wednesday morning.

"The police have been amazing, but say that this happens five to six times every day in [Kensington and Chelsea] and have asked us to share this," Mr Morrison said in a social media post.

"There were a lot of witnesses and police feel that the culprits will be caught.

"In the meantime, Amanda just wants to share her experience and hopes that everyone stays safe."

The Metropolitan Police said a 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to rob.

"Police were called at approximately 09:30am on Wednesday, 13 November to reports of a robbery in Ashburnham Road, SW10," the force said.

"The victim, a woman believed aged in her 50s, was threatened by two males on a moped. One was armed with an axe.

"Her watch was stolen during the incident. No reports of any injuries.

"A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to rob.

"Enquiries into the circumstances continue."

In June last year, comedian Michael McIntyre had his watch stolen by hammer-wielding thieves while waiting to pick up his son from school.
