A new pizza restaurant and takeaway is opening in Chester city centre today (May 7) - and you have a chance to get your hands on a free slice. Popular Liverpool-based business American Pizza Slice is launching at 59 Bridge Street.

The Grade II listed premises was previously occupied by a dessert shop. American Pizza Slice, which has been in business since 1998, has three sites in Liverpool - meaning the Chester eatery becomes the first restaurant outside of its home city.

To celebrate, the venue is offering free slices of pizza - but you'll need to be quick. American Pizza Slice said via its social media channels: "We'll be opening from 12pm today.

"Make sure to be the first in the queue for your FREE slice. Chester store only (sorry Liverpool). SEE YE THERE."

It was a trip to America that inspired owner Paul Canning to set up a small independent shop selling huge New York style pizza by the slice on a quiet corner in Whitechapel, Liverpool. More than 25 years later and the shop is still going strong, while two more sites - one on Bold Street and one on South Road in Waterloo - have also been launched.
