Anas Sarwar: After 14 years of Tory chaos it is time for change – lets deliver it together

After 14 years of Tory chaos, mismanagement and misery, this General Election hasn’t come a moment too soon.

Every Scot suffering at the hands of this inept and morally bankrupt Tory government breathed a sigh of relief when Rishi Sunak finally come out of hiding and called an election. Whether it was Boris Johnson to Liz Truss to Rishi Sunak in Downing Street, this sleaze-ridden Tory government has delivered nothing but bad news for the people of Scotland.

From the daily despair of failing public services and economic decline to the grotesque spectacle of the Downing Street Covid parties, the damage done by this out-of-touch government is clear. Now we finally have a chance to boot this rotten Tory government out and deliver the change that our country so desperately needs by electing a Labour government.

The choice could not be clearer. It is a choice between five more years of Tory economic turmoil, or stability and growth with Labour. It is a choice between a Tory government that has trashed workers’ rights and let wages stall, and a Labour government that will make work pay and transform workers rights with our New Deal for Working People.

It is a chance to vote for a publicly-owned GB Energy company based right here in Scotland, which will unlock Scotland’s potential as a world-leader in clean energy and drive forward Labour’s plans to cut bills, create jobs, and deliver energy security. It is a chance to rebuild the public services the Tories have decimated across the UK and boost funding for Scotland’s NHS.

It is a chance to give Scotland a real voice in Westminster and more importantly, in government. The Tories have been a disaster for Scotland and SNP MPs have put their own party interest ahead of Scotland’s interests at every turn.

These two chaotic and dysfunctional parties have failed Scotland – but change is possible. Every vote for Scottish Labour is a vote to elect a Labour government with Scotland’s voice at its heart.

Scottish Labour MPs will deliver where the SNP has failed and truly stand up for Scotland, delivering action instead of just words. With Labour, Scots will have a government that is on their side, led by Keir Starmer.

This election is a straight choice between a broken status quo with the Tories and the SNP and change with Labour – and it is an opportunity we cannot afford to miss. A Labour government that will boost pay, cut bills, renew public services, and revive our economy is within reach, but only if we vote for it.

I firmly believe that it will be Scottish Labour MPs that will get us over the line and deliver that Labour government that our country needs. It is time for change – lets deliver it together.
