Andor season 2 may be stuck in hyperspace traffic but it is indeed on the way and will once again reunite us with Diego Luna’s Rebellion hero Cassian Andor. The show’s first season landed on Disney+ in 2022 and took us back in time to tell a prequel story filling in the gaps of how Star Wars’ daring Rebel Alliance was formed.

Created by Tony Gilroy, writer of Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne trilogy, Andor is set before the events of 2016’s Star Wars movie spin-off Rogue One, itself a prequel which leads directly into the events of George Lucas’s 1977 franchise starter, A New Hope.

Following its release, Andor received rave reviews from both critics and audiences alike, with many praising its grounded and gritty vibe which earned it a glowing 96% Rotten Tomatoes score.

Naturally, fans of a galaxy far, far away are keen to see where the story goes next so without further ado, here’s everything we know about Andor season 2 so far. No Bothans were harmed in the gathering of this top-secret intel.

Andor season 2 will be released on Disney+ on 22 April 2025, and will consist of 12 episodes. Originally, it was due to arrive in August 2024 but those plans were scuppered in the wake of the 2023 Hollywood strikes.

The season was filmed throughout 2023. Star Diego Luna returned for reshoots in early 2024, and eventually confirmed that production had officially wrapped in February.

Unfortunately, we don’t have a trailer for Andor season 2 just yet.

Some lucky attendees at Star Wars Celebration 2023 were able to glimpse some in-production footage but that has sadly not made its way online. According to reports, the clip showed Cassian becoming a fully-fledged member of the Rebel Alliance.

The official plotline for Andor season 2 hasn’t been revealed but those involved have teased what we can expect when the show returns. Originally, Gilroy had planned for Andor to span five seasons before ultimately opting for a shorter approach, with season 2 set to lead directly into the events of Rogue One.

We know that there will be 12 new episodes in season 2 which will skip forward by one year for every three instalments. This new narrative approach will help catalyse Cassian’s journey, finding him in a very different place when he returns to screens.

“The next four years [of story] are not about becoming a revolutionary. They’re about learning to be a leader and how difficult it is to put the alliance together and what happens to people who are the original gangsters versus the establishment and a lot of different other issues,” Gilroy told Rolling Stone.

“People grow up and people get tired and people betray each other and people change their minds and people get weak and people get crazy.”

Reports also suggest that Andor season 2 will have closer links to the primary Star Wars trilogy. “We’re going to Yavin, and then we’re going into places where we eventually need to really weave our way back to the source,” Gilroy later told Collider.

Luna’s Cassian Andor will be back for the second series but we’re not 100% sure who else might pop up.

While it’s a safe bet that many of the show’s original characters will appear in some form or other — including Genevieve O’Reilly’s rebellion overseer Mon Mothma, Adria Arjona Bix Caleen and Joplin Sibtain’s Brasso — no official casting announcements have been made.

That said, we do know that first season stand-out Luthen Reel, played by Dune: Part Two’s Stellan Skarsgård, will be back as the key figure who helped Cassian join forces with the Rebellion – and it sounds like he had a blast filming Gilroy's second season.

Forest Whitaker in Andor

“I’m satisfied where it goes, yeah,” Skarsgård told Gizmodo. “It’s such good writing and it’s Tony Gilroy, I really like to say his lines.”

Elsewhere, it’s likely that we could see the return of Andy Serkis’ Kino Loy and Forest Whitaker's Saw Gerrera. Plus, as many Star Wars spin-offs frequently feature big-name cameos, so we wouldn’t rule out the return of some familiar faces — maybe even those with dark masks and breathing difficulties.

That said, at this stage, only time will tell who might appear in Andor season 2.
