Andor spoilers follow.

Andor actor Andy Serkis has responded to a fan theory about his character's fate ahead of the show's second season, due out in August 2024.

Serkis made his return to the Star Wars franchise in Andor's first season, playing Kino Loy. Kino was last seen in episode 10, titled 'One Way Out', in scenes that left viewers absolutely heartbroken. In the episode, Kino and Cassian (Diego Luna) were staging an escape from Narkina 5, with prison inmates rebelling to cause a distraction.

But when Kino realised the prison was in the middle of the ocean, he revealed he can't swim and therefore can't escape. Tragically, Kino was left behind as the other prisoners swam to freedom. His fate was left unknown for the rest of the season.

Now, speaking to Collider, Serkis has addressed fan speculation that Kino could reappear in Andor season two, which will span four years of Cassian's life.

"Well, put it this way, [Andor showrunner] Tony Gilroy said to me: 'He's still alive!'" Serkis said when asked about his character's fate.

"That's what he said to me. So, that seems to me like there's some sort of… there's a possibility that he might be alive," he added.

Serkis went on to say that he hopes the character's popularity with fans means he'll be brought back. Plus, he has a lovely idea about what Kino's been up to since we last saw him.

"I seriously hope that is going to manifest because I really do love the character, and I love playing the character so much. He's so complex and flawed and human and brave," he said.

"I really love the arc of the character, and I think there's definitely — I'm just imagining him sitting at Narkina 5 at the moment, on his own, perfecting his backstroke."

Previously, Andor director Toby Haynes discussed how Serkis approached the scene in which Kino realises he can't escape.

"The way that Andy played it, we were doing it where he's sort of angry and it's emotional that he's saying: 'I can't swim! I can't swim!'' Haynes shared.

"But then he just suddenly played it in this serene way where he was smiling and he goes: 'I've done all this and I can't actually get out, I can't swim. This is where we say goodbye.'

"I thought that was absolutely inspired and [it] was great working with Andy… it was sort of thrilling."
