Andre Breitenreiter sets Huddersfield Town new challenge amid Bojan Radulovic injury concern

Huddersfield Town boss Andre Breitenreiter has urged his side to “play with courage and without pressure” during the remaining games of their Championship survival battle.

The Terriers have five matches of their season left to play, and sit just one point and one place above the relegation zone heading into tomorrow night's clash at Preston North End.

Town moved out of the bottom three on Saturday with a last-gasp 1-0 victory over Millwall, but with his side remaining embroiled in a battle against the drop, Breitenreiter is eager for his team to play without fear of making mistakes.

“They have to enjoy, they have to play with fun the whole time,” the head coach said at his pre-match press conference.

“I felt also pressure when I was a player, and it’s a normal thing, so that’s the reason I’m fine with that, but I try to help them and to say ‘okay many years later now I know it is wrong’, because you always think about the good moments, and about positive pictures and clips. They should play brave, and to make mistakes is a normal thing.

“Mistakes are okay in football. When there are no mistakes, all the games would end 0-0, so play brave, try your best, and then believe until the end of the game.

“They did it (against Millwall), and that was the result of the meeting – ‘you did it, and you showed all of them that you can play under pressure, and you played the clean sheet and you won the game’.

“We start on Tuesday again for the next step, because it is a really important game for us. We need points, and we want to use the self-confidence after the win to our advantage, and play with courage and without pressure.”

The Terriers take on 10th-placed Preston North End next up away from home tomorrow evening, who are seven points outside of the play-offs with a game in hand, with the Lilywhites having six matches of their season left to play.

On tomorrow's clash, Breitenreiter added: “We also expect a tough game. Preston want to use maybe the last chance to get closer to the play-off places, but we have shown that we can hold our own against teams in the top half.

“They are a tall team, they are good in home games, but we try to take the next step and to win, because we have shown in many games that it’s possible, and now with the self-confidence and the belief after the win, we try to win in Preston, and then we will see if it happens.”

Providing team news ahead of the game, Town’s head coach said: “Bojan (Radulovic) has a little injury from Saturday. He got a stamp. Now today he can train in the afternoon.

“All the other players are fit. There is no new information about the injured players, so we hope to travel with the same squad like last Saturday.”
