A Tory candidate has said she was flashed at by a constituent while out canvassing with her seven-year-old son.

Dame Andrea Jenkyns, who is standing in Leeds South West and Morley, said a man dropped his trousers after she approached his home on Friday evening.

She told The Telegraph that she reported the incident to the police on Friday night.

“My babysitter let me down tonight and so I took him out leafleting with me, she told The Telegraph.

“He literally came to the window and pulled down his trousers, and I was really upset by this.

“I went back to my manager and I said, ‘Do you know something? I’ve got to say something to him’.

“I thought this is not right. My tiger mummy mode kicked in and that’s when I went back.”

‘I said, ‘Come on you coward, come to the door’’

Dame Andrea, who was canvassing with party activists, said her son turned away from the man and did not see his genitalia.

She then returned to the house at 7.10pm and a woman opened the door.

“She was so apologetic,” Dame Andrea said. “And then I saw him through the windows and I said, ‘Come on you coward, come to the door, this is disgusting doing this in front of a young child’.

“And he said, ‘F--- off, this is private property’. But he would not come. He was just mouthing off from the safety of his living room.”

The former junior education minister was a supporter of Boris Johnson, who appointed her minister for skills, further and higher education when he experienced a mass exodus of ministers from his administration in July 2022.

She was reappointed following the election of Liz Truss as Tory leader but was sacked when Mr Sunak entered No 10.

With Sir Simon Clarke, she was one of only two Conservative MPs to publicly reveal that she had submitted a letter of no confidence in Mr Sunak to the backbench 1922 Committee.

She has attracted attention during the election campaign for putting endorsements from Nigel Farage and Richard Tice on her election leaflets – without mentioning Rishi Sunak.
