Andrew Ridgeley is working with Netflix on a Wham! documentary

Andrew Ridgeley is reportedly working with Netflix to make a documentary about Wham!, the pop group he founded with George Michael.

The film will aim to provide an insight into the group who are best known for their hits Everything She Wants, Club Tropicana and Freedom. Michael would later leave the group and go on to have a remarkably successful solo career until his death in 2016.

According to a report by Metro: "It is a really exciting project, and they are putting a lot of resources into it. Andrew is also very keen for the opportunity to look back over his years with George in the band – though it will, of course, be bittersweet for him."

There is already a documentary about Michael coming to cinemas this summer. George Michael: Freedom Uncut will be released on 22 June.

It is an extended version of Freedom which was originally released in 2017. Michael was working on the documentary when he died on Christmas Day 2016 at the age of 53.

A coroner would attribute his death to heart disease.

Ridgeley has previously cast doubts over the cause of death. He said in his 2019 memoir: “That the circumstances of his death seemed unclear only compounded the distress. Without any real closure, the grieving seemed terribly raw.”

He added: "It now seems as if we may never know what really happened. When someone dies alone, perhaps there are always answers that remain out of reach. It still feels uncomfortable, though.”

Michael's body was found by his partner Fadi Fawaz at his home in Oxfordshire.

Ridgeley and Michael formed Wham! in 1980 and performed together until 1986, signing off with a farewell concert at Wembley Stadium.

Both men then embarked on solo careers but Ridgeley found minimal success compared to his former partner.
