Andy Cohen Says a 'Movie Star' Once Threatened to Walk Off WWHL Over a 'Sensitive' Question: 'She Was Furious'
As things began to grow uncomfortable, Cohen began panicking and his executive producer was prompting him to "Go to break! Go to break!"
Throughout his 15 years as a late-night host, Andy Cohen has dealt with his fair share of unsavory moments with his celebrity guests.
During an episode of Kelly Ripa's Let's Talk Off Camera podcast released on June 3, the Bravo head honcho recalled a "movie star" who almost walked off during her Watch What Happens Live appearance.
“My executive producer told me once, in year maybe three, that one of the two guests was going to walk because she was furious with how it was going," he began. "And it was a actual celebrity, a movie star. And I was like, 'Oh, my God.'"
When the celebrity's publicist informed Cohen "she's walking" during the commercial break, he remembered "trying to kind of talk her off the [ledge]."
"I very stupidly brought up something ... about as we were going the commercial break that I guess was very sensitive to this person," he explained. "And I thought she got out of it just fine, but the second guest hadn't heard about this thing. And then, the second guest was like, 'Wait a minute, what? You did what?' And then was really leaning into it."
As things began to grow uncomfortable, Cohen panicked and his executive producer was prompting him to "Go to break! Go to break!" while the second guest made her "re-explain it" and reacted, "Oh, my God. That's crazy."
"It was not great," he added before telling host Ripa she'd "never" figure out the identity of the unnamed star.
From shotskis and drinking games to A-list guests and unexpected revelations, Cohen has been bringing compelling late-night TV to Bravo for 15 years with his popular live show.
On Tuesday, June 4, Bravo announced it would be celebrating the milestone with a one-hour primetime special on Sunday, June 30. The network revealed that the special will feature “hilarious hijinks, unpredictable surprises and a jam-packed lineup of celebrity and Bravolebrity guests," per a press release shared with PEOPLE.
“Fifteen is my new lucky number!” Cohen said in a statement. “I can’t wait to celebrate the ‘WWHL’ legacy. Thank you to Bravo for always having faith in our little late-night show that could — allowing me to ‘go there,’ play ridiculous games, host incredible guests and generate endless watercooler talk. This is my dream job, and I hope I never wake up.”
