Andy Murray has pulled out of the men's singles at Wimbledon.

The two-time champion's involvement had been thrown into doubt after he went under the knife recently to remove a spinal cyst, but had nevertheless been practicing as recently as Monday.

Murray was due to face Czech opponent Tomas Machac on Centre Court in the first round on Tuesday, but has taken the decision to withdraw.

However, the Scot will still be involved in this year's championships, turning his attention to the doubles tournament with brother Jamie.

In a statement, Murray's team said: "Unfortunately, despite working incredibly hard on his recovery since his operation just over a week ago, Andy has taken the very difficult decision not to play the singles this year.

"As you can imagine, he is extremely disappointed but has confirmed that he will be playing in the doubles with Jamie and looks forward to competing at Wimbledon for the last time."

Murray, who's now 37, has already confirmed he won't be travelling to New York for the US Open in August, but has been named in Great Britain's squad for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, where he's hoping to participate in the singles and men's doubles alongside Dan Evans.
