Andy Roberton admitted that Liverpool must do better after being left "extremely frustrated" after their 1-0 defeat at home to Crystal Palace.

The Reds were punished once again for a poor start and their profligacy as Eberechi Eze's first-half strike proved to be enough for Oliver Glasner's side. Crystal Palace move further away from the relegation zone and in turn, handed a potentially fatal blow to Jurgen Klopp's title hopes.

Liverpool had opportunities of their own with desperate defending, Dean Henderson and poor finishing making for a frustrating afternoon on Merseyside. They now sit two points behind league leaders Manchester City but could fall further away should Arsenal beat Aston Villa.

"It's been the story of the last few games and that's why we've been punished," said Robertson. "We're struggling to keep clean sheets, I don't know how many we've had in the last 10 or 15 games but we won't have many, when you do that but still create so many chances you have to take them.

"The boys in front of goal have to do better but the defensive unit as a whole we have to do better which isn't a great thing for success. So frustrating today, first half we were poor they were on top and could've probably been more than 1-0 up and second-half, we probably had enough chances to win two or three games which when you're in a title race, you have to be clinical and we wasn't that today," he added.

Sunday's defeat makes it back-to-back disappointment for Liverpool, following their 3-0 Europa League defeat at home to Atalanta. While, they are now two games without a win in the Premier League at a vital stage of the season, following their 1-1 draw with Manchester United last weekend.

Robertson believes that Liverpool have to do better and when you're fighting for trophies, you need to have a clinical edge when it matters - something the Reds have lacked since the return of the international break.

The Scotland captain continued: "We've come back from international duty and haven't been that clinical which when you're going for trophies is not a great thing to have. We're off the boil in front of goal that's clear, no goals at Anfield which is very rare and we've been punished for it.

"When you're at this stage of the season, you can't really do it and teams around us will win their games but today's is done, a lot of regrets which we didn't want at the start of the day and we have to move on now.

"The crowd were quite anxious today and rightly so with how we were passing the ball, we kept giving the ball away and giving up chances. I don't know if players reacted to that, those who aren't experienced being in the title race but we're all quality players and that's why we're at Liverpool Football Club.

"We have to deal with that pressure, first-half I don't think we dealt with that pressure well and second half, I thought we were better at creating chances in front of goal but didn't take them. If you don't take your chances you get punished, we had enough chances to win the game today and it's extremely frustrating."
