Helicopter footage from Canoas shows a horse on a rooftop after flooding hit the region.

Around 20 dogs got trapped in a building in Porto Alegre, prompting volunteer rescuers to join to save them on Wednesday (May 8) .

The floods that began last week, caused by unusually heavy rains, have destroyed highways and bridges in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, which borders Uruguay and Argentina.
