Ant-Man 3's Kathryn Newton lands next movie role

Kathryn Newton has landed her next movie role in an untitled monster thriller, which is being directed by Scream VI filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.

The Ant-Man 3 star has signed onto the film alongside Euphoria's Angus Cloud and Black Lightning's Will Catlett, who all join previously announced cast members Melissa Barrera (Scream VI), Alisha Weir (Matilda the Musical), Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey) and Kevin Durand (Locke & Key).

While exact plot details are currently being kept under wraps, the movie is described as being similar to Universal's most recent monster films, Renfield and The Invisible Man (via Variety).

It will therefore "provide a unique take on legendary monster lore and will represent a fresh, new direction for how to celebrate these classic characters."

The film, which is set for release on April 19, 2024, is written by Stephen Sheilds and Guy Busick.

Newton made her MCU debut as Cassie Lang in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania earlier this year.

Revealing the advice Captain Marvel actress Brie Larson gave her before she auditioned for the role, Newton said: "I met Brie Larson one time, and I hope it's okay I'm saying it, but I looked at her and I'm like: 'Listen, I'm up for this Marvel role. This is really weird that I'm meeting you.'

"And she's like: 'If I can say anything to you, it’s be patient'".

Newton admitted that she had a while to wait before she got that all-important call asking her to meet with director Peyton Reed about the role.

"'And I was like: 'Oh my God. Okay, I’m ready.' I was just really ready. So I think timing is everything," she added.
