Ant McPartlin appears to have confirmed he's been sober for six months after a drink-driving crash in March which saw the TV star hit two vehicles while double over the drink-driving limit.

The Saturday Night Takeaway host checked into a private rehab clinic earlier this year after pleading guilty to drink-driving, but now appears to be winning his battle with alcohol.

Praised by friend and publicist Simon Hargreaves in an emotional Twitter post, McPartlin responded positively to his pal of over 20 years, seemingly confirming Hargreaves' comments that Ant was "6 months sober".

"Thanks pal. Really appreciate it," began McPartlin. "Lovely seeing you too. It really was long overdue. #weloveagoodlunch Hope you're using your Jcrew tote bag!"

Hargreaves also said Ant was "annoyingly healthy looking, and happier than I've seen him in years".

McPartlin stepped away from his presenting commitments after he was fined £86,000 and banned from driving for 20 months following the crash.

Speaking outside court following the sentencing, Ant said: "I just want to say I'm truly sorry for what happened. Higher standards are expected of me. I expect them of myself.

"I let myself down. I let a lot of people down. For that, I'm truly sorry. I'd like to apologise to everyone involved in the crash. I'm just thankful that no-one was seriously hurt."

Holly Willoughby was subsequently announced as stand-in presenter for the upcoming series of I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!

In January, McPartlin also revealed that he and wife Lisa Armstrong would be divorcing after 11 years of marriage.
