'Awkward': Helena Bonham Carter kisses BAFTA 2018 winner James Ivory's shoulder in cringe exchange

Helena Bonham Carter left viewers cringing after her attempt to congratulate James Ivory on his BAFTA win backfired.

The actress was keen to show her appreciation for Ivory after he was honoured with the Best Adapted Screenplay gong for Call Me By Your Name at Sunday night’s ceremony.

But as she stood up to kiss the US filmmaker she missed and ended up planting one on his shoulder.

Predictably the exchange didn’t go unnoticed by eagle-eyed fans who called on BAFTA to honour her with a gong for ‘Most Embarrassing Moment’.
