Celebrity Big Brother has sent John Barnes home in a backdoor eviction.

The controversial twist played out in Monday's highlight show (January 22), after the wheels were set in motion in a series of tasks over the weekend.

Big Brother once again pit the men against the women, allowing each side to put two people on the block - with John Barnes, Dapper Laughs (Daniel O'Reilly), Ann Widdecombe and Amanda Barrie being the unlucky four.

But because this was a backdoor eviction, there was no cheering crowd outside the house or even a public vote. The power was left in the hands of the winning side of a round of challenges.

The ladies ultimately won the challenge, so Big Brother left it to them to debate which of their follow housemates would be leaving with little fanfare out the backdoor.

"I have to speak for the women. This is not easy for us at all," Malika Haqq told the house. "With the heaviest heart, we have to say goodbye to John Barnes.

"The reason for that is because John can take this... We believe that Daniel still deserves a shot at winning Celebrity Big Brother."

In the Diary Room, John assured Big Brother: "I'm surprisingly okay because it happened so suddenly... I don't feel that they don't like me, but I feel they get along better with Dan. He's the life and soul of the house... There are no hard feelings whatsoever."
