The new episodes will see Section 20 investigate the crash of a Russian jet in the South China Sea.

While doing this, they find themselves working alongside and coming into conflict with rogue Russian operative Katrina Zarkova (Yasemin Allen), who is on the same trail as them but is not all she appears to be...

During the season, Section 20 will pursue the contents of the Russian jet, and along the way will work with Malaysian police to shut down a Triad gang in Kuala Lumpur, as well as uncover a corruption plot by a wealthy Indian businesswoman.

Filming for the 10-part seventh season has already begun in Malaysia.

"We're delighted to be back with Sky and Cinemax for a new season of Strike Back," said writer and executive producer Jack Lothian.

"We have fantastic actors and crew that work incredibly hard to provide big screen action for the small screen, with all the drama, high stakes, and mayhem that involves, and I can't wait for the audience to see the twists and turns we've got lined up."

Strike Back, which follows the exploits of spy agency Section 20, originally launched in 2010 with Richard Armitage, before being replaced by Philip Winchester and Sullivan Stapleton for seasons two to five.

Strike Back will return to Sky One in early 2019.
