Put down those chocolate eggs and bulk-buy the ice-cream instead, because this Easter could be the hottest yet. Here's hoping!

Owing to this week's unseasonably warm weather, bookies William Hill have slashed the odds of this being the warmest Easter ever: setting 8-1 odds on the weekend beating the previously held record.

Rumours are flying that highs this year could top those previously held by 2011's practically tropical 27.8°C, however the Met office remains diplomatically vague.

This year, Easter weekend falls from 14th to the 17th of April - which is over two weeks later than last year.

In 2011, when records were made, Easter Sunday fell particularly late - on 24th April.

A spokesman for William Hill said: "Easter is very late this year and if Mother's Day is anything to go by, we could just see further weather records tumble."

The Met office has confirmed that temperatures are likely to be above average over Easter, although long range forecasts are difficult to predict accurately.

Their longterm outlook states: "Much of this period will see a good deal of settled and dry weather across the UK. We are however likely to see unsettled conditions with cloud, rain and strong winds particularly affecting the far north and west of the UK at times.

"Such unsettled spells of weather are expected to be short-lived though. Temperatures are likely to be warmer than average, but with chilly nights at times."

A sunny Easter sounds just lovely to us!
