AN appeal has been lodged with the Planning Inspectorate following refusal of a plan to build 11 affordable homes at Himley, near Dudley.

Taylor Reed Homes Ltd has appealed against South Staffordshire Council’s refusal to grant permission for new homes to be built on grazing land in School Road.

The Oldbury-based developers had sought permission to build a mix of homes comprising two one-bedroom maisonettes, one two-bedroom detached house, four two-bedroom bungalows, two three-bed bungalows and two three-bedroom detached family properties.

The application, however, was refused on October 24 after a raft of objections from villagers concerned about overdevelopment in Himley, the impact on wildlife, access and potential traffic issues, drainage, and worries about building on the green belt.

The council said the development would be located outside the service village and occupiers of the new homes would be dependent on car use to access to everyday facilities.

The authority added that there was no confirmation of a need within the parish for the type and scale of development proposed and said it would constitute an inappropriate form of development within the green belt.

A public notice on the publicnoticeportal.uk website states that any landowner or tenant wishing to make representations about the appeal should write to The Planning Inspectorate, Temple Quay House, 2 The Square, Bristol BS1 6PN by May 14.
