Appeal for prayers as 18-year-old critically injured in crash

THE local community have been asked to keep praying for a Belleek teenager who sustained life-threatening injuries in a two-vehicle collision.

Oisin Gregg, 18, was critically injured as he travelled on the Letterboy Road to a band parade in Kesh on Friday night.

Mr. Gregg, who was the driver of one of the cars, was airlifted to hospital for life-threatening injuries. He remains in a critical condition at this time.

The driver of the other car, a 44-year-old man, was also taken to hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Rev. Rebecca Guildea, Rector of the Garrison Group of Parishes, has extended a prayer appeal for Mr. Gregg and his family.

A service of prayer was held on Saturday night in Belleek.

Rev. Guildea said: "The family have been greatly appreciative of the prayers of Oisin’s friends and the wider community, and that we as a church ask that all would keep Oisin and the Gregg family in their prayers during this time."

She added: "It has been wonderful to see the strength of community in Belleek, in the midst of such sadness."

Mr. Gregg is a committed member of North Fermanagh Young Defenders, which issued a statement praying for his recovery.

"It goes without saying we are all shocked and saddened to hear the news of our member Oisin," a spokesperson said.

"Unfortunately he was involved in a serious traffic collision yesterday outside Kesh.

"We all hope and pray he pulls through this and we are all thinking of him and his family during this tough time."

Following the two-vehicle collision involving a silver Peugeot 207 Sport HDI and blue Honda Accord, police have launched an investigation.  Police have appealed to anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have dash-cam footage, to contact police, quoting reference number 1515 07/06/24.

Speaking on the incident, a spokesperson from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) confirmed that two emergency crews, were despatched, along with one Rapid Response Paramedic and one Ambulance Officer.

The Charity Air Ambulance, with HEMS on board, was also tasked to the incident.  Meanwhile, a spokesperson from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) said that a total of three fire appliances were despatched, from Dromore,  Castlederg and Irvinestown.

Firefighters, using specialist equipment, rescued the two casualties from the cars, the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service confirmed.
