Archaeological dig to take place at historic castle

An archaeological dig is set to take place at a historic castle.

The excavation will be carried out on a Roman Site at Bodiam Castle from July 27 until August 17.

During this three-week period, excavation teams will be at the site from 10am until 4pm every day.

National Trust members or people who have paid to enter the castle grounds will be able to watch the dig for free and can enjoy site visits.

They can also look at items the team have discovered at the Finds Test near the Mill Pond inside the castle grounds.

A spokesman for The National Trust, who organised the dig in partnership with UCL and Archaeology South-East, said: "An archaeological dig will be undertaken to see what may be discovered from the Roman site which lies to the south of the River Rother.

"Throughout the three-week dig period, there will be dig site visits, graffiti tours and much more to get involved in."
