Are you mad for it? Dissecting “Supersonic.”

Some might say that Oasis revolutionised the British Rock scene. Released in 1994 “Supersonic” perfectly summarises the band’s turbulent climb straight to the top of the music scene. 1994 was a massive year for Oasis, an appearance at Glastonbury, many drug fuelled arguments and facing a 250,000 strong crowd at Knebworth Park.

The feature length film, shot and directed by the makers behind “Amy” and “Spike Island” aim to bring light to those exact times. Displaying an insight into the unseen footage of the chaos and mayhem that was Liam and Noel Gallagher. Archive footage, unseen pictures and running commentary from the Mancunian brothers. The film was announced on the 5th of March this year, by a tweet sent from Liam claiming to have seen the first cut version of the movie, deeming it “biblical”. “Supersonic” is set to be released in UK cinemas on the 2nd of October, with the premiere being held in London, which caused quite the outrage by Liam Gallagher, so naturally he took to Twitter to voice his anger, claiming it was entirely his brothers fault, calling him every profanity under the sun.

Alongside running commentary and footage, “Supersonic” documents the timeline from the release of the debut single “Supersonic” on the 11th of August 1994, right the way up to two nights at Knebworth. Initially, after announcing the new film, the media were quick to turn to both brothers in order to gain an opinion on the portrayal of each other. After a rigorous interviewing process, the brothers have not yet revealed too much, a few phrases and paragraphs, if that. You’d be better off turning to Liam’s twitter than the inlay of NME for crucial information. Noel on the other hand, showed little concern about the film, as he currently comes to the end of an extensive tour across America and the UK, “I’ve done 20 hours of interviews. I’m involved to the point of I was interviewed, I’ve seen it, and I’ve gone, ‘Yeah."

Despite hearing from both Gallaghers, we are yet to hear from the three other members (Paul "Guigsy” McGuigan, Paul “Bonehead Arthurs and original drummer Tony McCaroll) who formed the instrumental section of Oasis. Why is this? Perhaps the "Supersonic” documentary specifically features on the brothers, but surely there must be some involvement from the trio?
This set-to-be groundbreaking film may just unearth some unanswered questions, that have been probably keeping the more passionate Oasis fan up at night. Questions such as; “Why did Noel kick original drummer Tony McCaroll out?”, “What happened in San Francisco after Liam provoked Noel to flee the state.” and “What is the meaning behind the song Supersonic, do we ever find out who Elsa is?”.

The release of the movie is sure to be groundbreaking, it might even be the perfect re-kindling for an Oasis reunion, I mean it’s already caused Liam to announce his new solo album, set to be released in 2017. So anything can happen.
