Ariana DeBose hits back at Critics Choice Awards diss after Bella Ramsey joked about 'actors who think they're singers'

Ariana DeBose and her fans are hitting back after a joke about her failed to land at Sunday's 2024 Critics Choice Awards.

Presenting the award for best song, "The Last of Us" actor Bella Ramsey and "Hamilton" star Anthony Ramos said that some of the nominated tracks were "delivered by some of the most famous voices in the music industry," name-checking Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish, and Lenny Kravitz, as reported by Deadline.

"And then there are the actors who also think that they're singers," Ramsey continued. "Jack Black, Ariana DeBose, Ryan Gosling."

In clips of the moment shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, DeBose looks confused as the camera cuts to her.

In an Instagram story posted after the ceremony, DeBose appeared to respond to the joke.

"No. I didn't find it funny. Lol," she wrote.

Representatives for the Critics Choice Awards, Ramsey, and Ramos did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Business Insider.

Users on X also criticized the joke, noting that DeBose is an accomplished Broadway star known for singing and acting.

The actor won an Academy Award in 2022 for her role as Anita in the musical "West Side Story," in which she sang, acted, and danced.

"Ariana DeBose, Oscar award winning, Tony nominated, OG cast member of Hamilton on BROADWAY…. 'THINKS she's a singer'?!? Who wrote this bit?! I want names," wrote one person on X.

Other viewers shared jokes about DeBose's reaction during the ceremony.

DeBose was nominated for the song "This Wish" from Disney's animated musical, "Wish."

"I'm Just Ken," performed by "Barbie" star Gosling, ended up winning the best song award, beating another popular song from the movie, "What Was I Made For?"
