Ariana Grande Admits 'Problem' Was Written About Being 'Absolutely Terrified' Of Failed Relationship

Ariana Grande has opened up about her new single 'Problem' admitting it was written about being “absolutely terrified” to rekindle a failed romance while also revealing that she originally didn't want it to feature on her upcoming album – despite the fact it has broken records after topping the US iTunes chart.

The 20-year-old finally premiered the lead single, which features Iggy Azalea, from her anticipated second album this week and it soared to the top of the charts within hours of release, scoring a number one on the iTunes chart in the US.

Opening up about the meaning behind the song, Ariana, who split from The Wanted's Nathan Sykes in December, told Billboard: “'Problem' truly represents the feeling of being absolutely terrified to re-approach a relationship that's gone sour -- but you want to more than anything.

“In the song, it ends on a sappy, negative note, but in [real] life, we're hoping it's going to end on a positive one. I feel like it's all very honest and human.”

Speaking about working with Australian rapper Iggy for the first time, Ariana said: “I was a fan of hers from when she put 'Work' out.

“I thought she was so sensible and down-to-earth and talented.”

Interestingly, Ariana also revealed that she initially didn't intend for 'Problem' to feature on the upcoming album but changed her mind after playing the song in a meeting with her record label and management.

She's no doubt counting her lucky stars though as not only has the track topped the iTunes chart, but it has also become the fastest song to soar to number one in just over half an hour.

“Loves u broke a record! Problem is now the fastest song to ever climb to no 1 on @iTunesmusic only 37 minutes u are the most amazing,” Ariana tweeted.
