'Armed cops' swoop on Scots street after reports of 'disturbance'

Police locked down a street in Inverness today after reports of a 'disturbance.'

Officers were alerted to the incident on Muirtown Street in the city this morning, Thursday, May 9, at around 11:50am. A 56-year-old man was taken to hospital. He was also arrested in connection with the incident.

The area was quickly locked down after mercy crews arrived and locals reported seeing a number of armed police officers at the scene.

Images show a large number of police vehicle and fire appliances stationary on the street.

Police Scotland confirmed the road reopened this evening at around 6:45pm. They added that there is no further risk to the public.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Around 11.50am on Thursday, 9 May, 2024, we were called to a report of a disturbance in the Muirtown Street area of Inverness.

"Emergency services attended and a 56-year-old man was taken to hospital.

"The same man was arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries are ongoing.

"There is no wider risk to the public and locals are thanked for their patience.

"The road fully reopened around 6.45pm."
