Armed police respond to 'suspicious activity' in Swindon car park
Five people have been arrested after armed police were called to reports of “suspicious activity” in a Swindon car park.
Police responded to concerns over people acting suspiciously in a car park on Cricklade Road shortly before 4am on Thursday, May 2.
Several people were allegedly spotted looking into parked cars and possibly trying door handles before getting into a car and driving away.
Shortly afterward, officers from the Road Policing Unit stopped a Mercedes in connection with the incident, with support from an armed response vehicle and dog units.
Police say a search of the vehicle uncovered cannabis and multiple tools, including a chisel and a crowbar.
During the search, gloves and face coverings were also located.
Two men in their 20s were subsequently arrested on suspicion of going equipped for burglary and possession of a class B drug.
Another man in his 20s, a woman in her 40s, and a teenage boy were all arrested on suspicion of going equipped for burglary.
The group remains in custody for questioning at the time of writing.
