Army Cadets from Newmains learn history of Scots regiment during visit to capital
A platoon of Army Cadets from North Lanarkshire enjoyed a special day out in the capital while learning about the history of the Royal Regiment of Scotland.
The youngsters from 3 Platoon (RSB) Newmains, who form part of the Glasgow & Lanarkshire Battalion of Army Cadets, were invited along to Edinburgh Castle on Saturday, May 4, by the Museum of the Royal Regiment of Scotland.
They learned all about the history of the regiment, which was formed in 2006 following the merger of several regiments in a restructuring by the British Army.
They also learned about the history of the regiments that went before it.
The regiment consists of three regular battalions; two reserve battalions, and an incremental company.
Lieutenant Amy-Jo Battersby, Detachment Commander, said: “The cadets had a fantastic time learning about Scotland’s military history and the cap-badge they wear as army cadets.
“Not only did they visit the museum, they got to see all of the memorials in the castle, enjoyed a handling session with objects from the collection and visited the headquarters of the regiment.
“And they rounded the day off by going out for dinner together.”
