A man was arrested in the Arndale Centre shopping centre in central Manchester, just hundreds of metres away from where a terrorist detonated a bomb in the Manchester Arena on Monday evening.

The unidentified man was escorted away from the shopping centre by policy shortly after 11:00 a.m. BST (6 a.m. ET).

Greater Manchester Police have confirmed an arrest was made but say they do not believe the incident is related to last night's terror attack.

They tweeted: "A man has been arrested at the Arndale Centre – This is not currently believed to connected to last night’s attacks."

An officer at the scene told ITV's Daniel Hewitt that a suspicious package was the cause of the evacuation.

Hundreds of people were evacuated from the complex in central Manchester earlier this morning. The shopping centre has now been re-opened.

Hundreds of people fled the shopping centre complex shouting "run run" amid panic and confusion.
