Liverpool’s transfer plans are somewhat unknown given the change in head coach, with Arne Slot arriving with his own Anfield vision.

Early speculation says a new midfielder is expected to be sought while a defender could also be targeted, and a number of names have already been bandied about. The transfer window opens this week, when the rumour mill could start to turn faster.

Liverpool could sanction a number of exits too. Caoimhin Kelleher has been linked with a sale while Alisson has been connected with Saudi, albeit tentatively. Meanwhile, third-choice goalkeeper Adrian has been offered a new deal but reports suggest clubs in Spain hold interest in him. Elsewhere, one defender has secured an exit to become the club’s first departure of the summer.

Ramsay explains loan exit

Calvin Ramsay says he is keen to prove a point during his loan spell at League One outfit Wigan Athletic. The full-back secured a year-long loan deal with the Latics last week following a tough 2023/24 season that included two loan spells that didn’t go to plan.

After undergoing knee surgery last year which hampered a loan spell at Preston North End, he failed to find favour at Bolton Wanderers in a second loan stint post-January.

“[I’m] hungry to get going, show everyone what I can do and probably prove a few people wrong who have been saying a few things or doubting me,” Ramsay told Wigan club media. “It’s a good opportunity, a good club and I’m ready to go.”

The ECHO says: The move is a good opportunity for Ramsay to get back on track after a tough 12 months. At 20, the defender has bags of time on his side and Wigan is an excellent platform for him at this stage in his comeback.

As seen with Conor Bradley at Bolton in the 2022/23 season, a loan spell in the third tier can be the springboard for better things. Ramsay’s last two loans have not worked out as well but this is his chance to show that he does have the wherewithal to cope in English football.

‘I don’t know my future’

Liverpool academy goalkeeper Jakub Ojrzynski has admitted he is unclear where his future may lie beyond the summer. The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at second tier Dutch side FC Den Bosch but only played 11 times, struggling for game time in 2024 and entering the summer with an injury.

Ojrzynski has only made Liverpool’s senior matchday squad once having spent five years at the club. “I am in the final phase of rehabilitation. Fortunately, I am getting closer to returning to full fitness,” he outlined to Echo Dnia.

“I’m waiting for the next season. I don’t know yet where I will play next season. I’m still a Liverpool player, we’ll see how it all turns out.”

The ECHO says: Ojrzynski‘s Liverpool future will be resolved when Arne Slot is given the opportunity to take a closer look at his squad. There could be a reshuffling in the backup keeper department this summer too, although it’s unlikely that he will be considered ready enough to be called into the senior squad.
