Arne Slot in Liverpool 'waiting room' as Feyenoord boss tells Anfield club exactly what they want to hear
Arnse Slot has confirmed he DOES want to be Liverpool's next manager.
The Dutchman has emerged as the Anfield club's no 1 choice to replace the departing Jurgen Klopp, who will call time on his Anfield reign this summer. After Xabi Alonso confirmed that he'll be staying with Bundesliga shock troops Bayer Leverkusen next season, the Reds board turned their attentions elsewhere. Sporting boss Ruben Amorim was heavily linked, but talks have begun with Feyenoord, who Slot guided to the KNVB Cup last week.
And he's now left everyone in no doubt that he wants to make the move from De Kuip to Anfield. Slot, who turned down the chance to manage Tottenham a year ago, is under contract at Feyenoord until 2026 although discussions over compensation are taking place. Slot is prepared to be patient while the two clubs thrash it out and it now seems to be a case of when rather than if he heads to Merseyside.
"It seems clear to me that I would like to work there," Slot told ESPN. "All I can say about it is that the clubs are in negotiations. I’m in the waiting room. I am confident, waiting for the clubs to reach an agreement."
The Dutchman made it clear previously that his next move would be outwith the Eredivise. he explained: "The next step will not be another club in Holland. If that is the next step, I’ve failed completely in the upcoming few years. A normal next step would be to go abroad and I’ve always said that the best league in the world is the Premier League."
