Arnold pub The Eagle suddenly closes leaving locals asking what's going on

A community pub has closed down without warning - leaving locals asking why? The Eagle, on a housing estate in Arnold, has been closed for several days.

The doors were locked and no one was around on Tuesday (May 14) when the pub was due to open at 1pm. Not even a Greene King delivery man, who turned up with boxes of crisps, knew what was happening.

Locals took to the Arnold Community Group Facebook page to try and find out why it had been closed for at least four days. One claimed "I've heard the manager has handed her notice in and no one taking over as yet." Someone else asked if it would be reopening.

The previous landlady, who had run the pub in Howbeck Road for around six years, left last September and it was taken over by a new manager. The Eagle opened in 1979 and was extensively refurbished in 2015.

A spokesperson for Greene King said: “The pub is currently closed whilst we seek a new partner to take over the running of the business. We look forward to re-opening this great community pub in due course.”
