A Nottinghamshire school has reassured students after cubicle doors were reported to be missing in a block of toilets. Arnold Hill Spencer Academy has explained that the toilets in the alternative provision setting of the school were closed and without doors temporarily.

A spokesperson for the Spencer Academies Trust, which runs the school, stated: "'There were always toilets and washrooms with doors present and operational available for students in that specific area of the academy, whilst some toilets were temporarily closed and without doors for a short period of time."

This comes after a dad raised concerns about the toilet situation after all but one of the cubicle doors were removed and the pupils were not told why. He added that these toilets were shared by boys and girls, which he felt was "ridiculous" for their ages.

The 53-year-old dad from Arnold said: "On the school site there is the AP, it's a small building for alternative provision." He explained it is used by around 20 pupils with varying needs, but when his daughter went in last week she found that the toilets had no cubicle doors.

He said: "In the toilets, they took all the doors off and just left one cubicle, but there’s boys and girls going in there using the same toilets. I think it was left like it for four or five days but now they have put the doors back on but they have drilled holes into four of the doors and tie wrapped them up."

Whilst the doors have been reinstalled, he claims the majority of the toilet cubicles have been tied shut so they cannot be used. He added that this has left his daughter and others not wanting to use the facilities.

"She said that she started using the staff toilets as she doesn’t want to be going in there, so it’s put her off going really," the parent added. "If it’s male and female students, I understand that if they are over the age of eight they should have separate toilets with locks."
