A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on on suspicion of robbery and possession of cannabis following two incidents of unprovoked assaults on the same night in a Nottinghamshire village.

A 44-year-old man was pushed to the floor and attacked by two men outside Cotgrave Village Stores in West Furlong in Cotgrave at around 7.35pm on Tuesday, April 30. They kicked him in the body and head and then hit him in the face with a beer can, police say.

Then a third man stole the alcohol and tobacco he had just bought from the shop and a quantity of cash from the man. Around an hour later police were called about a 35-year-old man being set upon by two men in Candleby Lane in the village. Nothing was stolen but the man was left cut, bruised and in pain in his legs, body and chest.

The 17-year-old was arrested after police chased him on foot. But the other two offenders are still being sought.

Detective Inspector Simon Harrison, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We are treating these two incidents as linked and we are working hard to trace two further suspects in relation to these serious unprovoked assaults. A number of lines of enquiry are being investigated, including checking CCTV footage, to locate the remaining suspects.

"To assist us in our investigation we are urging anyone who witnessed these attacks, may have recorded CCTV or dashcam footage, or any other relevant information to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 753 of 30 April 2024, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
