Feyenoord boss Arne Slot has emerged as a leading contender to replace Jürgen Klopp at Liverpool this summer. A number of managers have been linked with the Anfield job, including Xabi Alonso, Roberto De Zerbi and Rúben Amorim.

But Slot is now a clear favorite just a year after rejecting a move to the Premier League with Tottenham. Slot took over at Feyenoord in 2021 and he led the club to a third-place finish in his debut season, before winning the Eredivisie title last term.

Liverpool fans are already speculating about potential transfer business under the Dutchman and one of his first pieces of business at Feyenoord was to sign Reiss Nelson on loan from Arsenal.

Nelson scored four times for Feyenoord during his loan spell, helping the club reach the final of the Europa Conference League. And he has previously spoken very highly of his former manager

"Holland was great for me. I felt like Arne Slot is a great manager. He really got me into my rhythm. He gave me a lot of opportunities to play and I excelled," the Arsenal player told Colney Carpool.

"It was really cool, like I said we got to the final. It was just the little things with the personal life, not my family around, the Coronavirus situation. So it was a bit tough. But football-wise, it was perfect."

After turning down a move to Tottenham, Slot made his ambitions to manage in the Premier League clear. He told Sky Sports: "My next step will not be a club in Holland.

"If that is my next step, then I've failed completely. The normal next step will be to go abroad and I've always said the best league in the world is the Premier League."

With Klopp's exit confirmed since January, Slot faced direct questions about the possibility of heading to Liverpool. He offered a coy response, saying, "What answer can I give that there will be no headlines about it? So next question!

"I think it is incredibly impressive that [Klopp] has been so good at that level for so long, with so much energy for nine years. I see it as a special achievement that you can maintain that level for nine years with so much dedication and passion. Especially when you consider how many games we play. Let alone how many they play in England." says: Slot has done an impressive job at Feyenoord and has made no secret of his ambition to manage in the Premier League. He is now a leading candidate to replace Klopp and will relish the opportunity. Any manager taking over from the German has a difficult job on their hands but Slot will be keen to take on the challenge.
