Arsenal fans light up Highbury and Emirates with Wenger Out protest ahead of crucial Tottenham clash

Frustrated Arsenal fans took their attempts to oust Arsene Wenger to the streets of London tonight ahead of Sunday’s crucial visit to Tottenham.

Supporters beamed their Wenger Out demands onto the side of the former Highbury stadium and Arsenal's current home at the Emirates.

It is the latest in a string of attempts by fans to put pressure on the Arsenal board to withdraw the two-year contract believed to be on offer to the Frenchman, whose side sit sixth in the Premier League table.

Wenger has continually refused to discuss his future, insisting in his press conference before Sunday’s derby that it was “no distraction”.

Protest marches to the Emirates have occurred at several home games over recent months whilst a plane trailing the banner “No New Contract #WengerOut” flew over the Hawthorns during Arsenal’s 3-1 loss to West Brom.

And the movement to unseat Wenger will not stop with tonight’s action. It is understood that further events are planned until the end of the season, after which the 67-year-old’s current contract is due to expire.

Though Wenger’s side secured their spot in a third FA Cup Final in four years with a 2-1 victory over Manchester City on Sunday there remain many Arsenal supporters who believe their manager of over 20 years must go.

Wenger has admitted he will take the view of fans into account when deciding his future though speaking before March's FA Cup fifth round tie with Lincoln he said it would not be "the most important factor".

Even among those who have not vocally protested against Wenger there appears to be a sense of disillusionment, with over 10,000 empty seats spotted at the Emirates for Wednesday’s 1-0 victory over Leicester City.

That was the first of what Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey termed seven “cup finals” as the Gunners battle to secure a top four spot. Perhaps the most challenging of these comes on Sunday as Wenger’s side look to claim all three points in the last North London Derby to be played at White Hart Lane.
