Artist's nature-focused exhibition launched in Oxford

An exhibition which explores the "sacred and evolutionary" aspects of nature through art is now open to the public.

Artist Helen Edwards will be staging 'Breathing of Life' at The North Wall Arts Centre, in Summertown, until August 10.

The exhibition celebrates 75 years of the Cutteslowe Community Association, where Ms Edwards has been operating a family art club since 2006, and interweaves her solo and collaborative work.

The showcase features her environmental images which explore the use of colour, texture and detail in her portrait work.

The paintings are complemented by underwater photography which brings new perspectives to the waters of Oxford.

The exhibition also highlights the work done by Freshwater Habitats Trust in saving Oxfordshire's rare wetland plants.

Ms Edwards, originally from Northern England, has trained in environmental art and dance in the UK, Europe, Japan and Indonesia over the last 25 years.

She has created artwork in response to ecological explorations across the last three decades.

The exhibition started with a private viewing on July 3, which featured a dance performance and live music.

Ms Edwards will be hosting an artist talk on July 9 from 2-3.30pm.

Alongside the exhibition, she will also be organising several workshops, including family art sessions and dance and ecology and poetry and ecology workshops over the course of the exhibition.
